I started a new project last week documenting young people in the Welsh Valleys. Unemployment and child poverty is particularly high here as no industry was bought into the area to replace coal mines after they were closed by Thatcher. I’ll be working on this project throughout the year but wanted to share a few pictures now whilst it’s especially poignant.
Nigel (50) on Margaret Thatcher “When she closed the mines there was no real jobs for people to go into. There is still a knock on effect from that that we’ve never recovered from. Although some of the other governments have tried to it hasn’t got any better and now there is nothing for young people to do. Maggie ripped the heart out of Wales but I still love my queen and country.”
